Chad / Libya: signing an agreement authorizing the right to pursue their respective territory.

Libyan Prime Minister fayez el sarraj visited djamena on Wednesday, 25 July 2018.

Border Security was the main item on the agenda of this meeting with President Idriss Deby. The following statement was made:

(1) the libyan south has since 2011 become a rear base of all traffickers and bandits who are active in the great sahara crossing borders, without being worried. The interests of these traffickers often join those of jihadist terrorists.

(2) South Libyan is also the rear base of Chadian rebels who have training camps. Many rebels recycle in traffic or turn into mercenaries. The Libyan authorities in Tripoli claim that there are 18 Chadian mercenaries in the ranks of opposing libyan factions.

So many reasons that require a joint response from the authorities of Libya, Niger, Chad and Sudan at their borders. A four-phase agreement was found between these four countries to address the enormous security challenge posed by South Libya. The fourth and final phase will be signed next month in khartoum. This agreement authorizes the right to pursue armed groups on the ground of these four signatory countries. A man warned is worth two.
